Is Your Comfort Zone Killing Your Business? Think back to the last time a buyer asked you to show a home on your day off. Did you agree to do it? If so, you may be operating in your Comfort Zone! Have you made a commitment to yourself to start doing video, but have made excuses for yourself? Lack-of-time, need-a-haircut, bad-lighting type of excuses? If so, you may be operating in your Comfort Zone! Do you have an overpriced listing on the market right now? If so, you may be operating in your Comfort Zone! There is a meme (14 comments)
SURRENDER... and Win! A client of mine came to me two years ago who was overwhelmed with where she was at in her business. She felt that she had hit her peak and would never again get back to where she had been years earlier. She had given up, was tired, and had lost her mojo. She even discussed her financial situation. It was not good. As I began to offer solutions she came up with creative reasons why my solutions would never work for her. I could tell that she was overwhelmed but I needed her to STOP (11 comments)
It Could Happen To Anyone It happened to me and was life changing. The recent report about the broker in Snohomish County, Washington who was assaulted at an open house brought me back 20 years when I too was assaulted at an open house. Although this is difficult to share and I am sure difficult to read, I would be remiss in not sharing my experience with my readers in the hopes of bringing more awareness to the issue. I don't usually talk about the event as it still makes me anxious just thinking about it. However, for the (4 comments)
Just Because You Can Doesn't Mean You Should Most real estate brokers that I know got into the business because they love helping people. They are servant people at heart and really want to take great care of their clients. However, the challenge that many brokers face is that they often find themselves between a rock and a hard place when a seller or buyer asks them to do something they really shouldn't be doing. On one hand they want to please their clients and take care of the issue because that is what they do best but on (5 comments)
Simplify! We just had a great two-day Safari workshop this week. What I love most about Safari is that no two are alike! Although the principles and foundations of each are the same, the application of those principles of each are driven by the unique needs of the agents in the room. At this last Safari, there were agents with years of experience, some that were brand new, some whose business had stagnated and needed new energy, and even some agents that were overwhelmed with business and were trying to put together transactions on the breaks. Some were there (14 comments)
Overcoming Unpredictable Income What's the Number One thing real estate agents don't like about the business? Time and again I hear the same answer: The unpredictability of income. It doesn't have to be this way! There is a rampant delusion out there that real estate is a "feast or famine" business. Every day agents say, "I don't know if I'll be making any money in March because of the fluctuations in the market." If you've ever said anything even remotely similar, I have a question for you. If this is true, then how is it that I know many (5 comments)
Your Work-Life Balance Check-Up I would like to take you back to December 31, 2015. You might have been with friends celebrating the new year, traveling with family, or perhaps curled up with a cup of hot cocoa next to the fire, but wherever you were and whatever you were doing, you had probably been giving some thought to the upcoming year and how it was going to be different than previous years in terms of structure and in terms of protecting your family time. Fast forward to September 1, 2016; Labor Day weekend and the symbolic end of (2 comments)
Coping With Life as a Business Owner How many hats do you wear? As a real estate salesperson, you're painfully aware that you're not just a salesperson. You're a marketer, financial consultant, troubleshooter, negotiator, computer repair person, legal consultant, and customer service representative, not to mention the owner of a small business. Yes, you are the President, the Chief, the Boss and CEO of You Incorporated! Your job title should be changed to "juggler," because that's what you really are. You have to juggle it all - your time, money, relationships, and schedule. These are the four flaming torches of (0 comments)
Resolutions That Should Be at the Top of Your New Year's List Every year in January real estate agents look to the past year for clues about what worked well for them and what they could do better. It is a time of revitalization and slate is wiped clean of the previous year's wins and losses. It is a time to start fresh and begin doing all the things that you wanted to get to, maybe even vowed to get to, but never did. Although we are several weeks into the year already, I am hearing from a number (2 comments)
